Bangkok Veterans League Season #1, Month #5 20/Nov/2005 • Harrow School
NIST Teachers become the first-ever repeat winners in Nov/2005 Vets League
Date: 22/Nov/2005
Once again, I would like to thank all of you for participating in our 5th monthly "Bangkok Vets League" competition on the weekend. It was just another good fun run-around, with plenty of action. And, again, the NIST Teachers were the run-away winners, overcoming a strong challenge from Harrow Teachers with a 2-0 victory in the Grand Final.
This month, the teams that took the field on the day were:
• NIST Teachers
• Yingcharoen Standbys
• German
• British Club
• Harrow Teachers
There were ups-&-downs for all teams during Group Stage:
British Club's amazing (and rare) victory over the Germans
Germans losing first 2 and winning last 2 games to secure 3rd group spot
Harrow Teachers holding NIST Teachers to a 0-0 draw
Germans spirited wins over the eventual champions NIST Teachers and the runners-up Harrow Teachers
British Club winning on penalties over the Yingcharoen Standbys to land the 4th group spot
and, not much to show for from one of our earlier champions Yingcharoen Standbys this month..!
In the Knockout Stage:
Germans scoring a last minute goal against British Club to equalize, and win the 3rd place in the ensuing penalties
and, an action-packed 2-0 NIST Teachers victory in the Grand Final where they held off a second half onslaught from Harrow Teachers
And, we were (belatedly!) happy about our new Gulfcoast Arabian friends who played a lengthy 30 min friendly game at the very end. We're looking forward to welcoming them in the future events.
Here's the complete scores of the day ==>
One more on the positive side, I have received inquiries from a couple of more teams in wanting to join in to this tournament format. Time will tell whether we can sustain the effort and the interest going forward.
Thanks, once again, for supporting the "Vets" idea. It's looking it will expand with greater interest in the near future. As always, I would also appreciate any of your suggestions on how to improve the event.
See y'all next month.
Kind regards,
-Eralp

Dear EG,
Thanks for organizing the event again last Sunday. It was fun to beat
Germans but we have to practice our penalty-shootouts!
