Vikings repeat the feat in Apr/2006 Vets League
Date: 30/Apr/2006
Despite the tense moments Thailand witnessed during Apr/2nd holding their elections, we have seen even tenser moments in our Month-3 of Veterans League tournament on the same day for us Farangs gathering in the spirit of "non-political peaceful assembly". Due to the restrictions imposed by the government on alcohol sales on the election day, our consumption of it went through the roof — special thanks to Rory and the boys from the Winking Frog. As a result, the previous month's Grand Finalists, the Winking Frog, finished their group battles with 0 (zero) points (that's 3 lost games) and 0 (zero) goals scored. Way to go lads..!
However, they saved the day with a win in the 5th place game, scoring their only goal during open play that ended 1-1 against BU Japan, and narrowly winning over penalties. Which meant that our good friends from the Land of the Rising Sun picked up their 2nd BadCup! in as many months..!! I'm sure they'll come to Month-4 competition with a renewed vigor to do one better.!
The Group Stage saw interesting scores, such as March champions Vikings losing to a "localized" British Club, and British Club winning over the Germans as well (and finishing 2nd in the Group Stage), Yingcharoen grabbing the top spot, and Vikings interestingly finishing at 3rd place.
1st Semi Final Yingcharoen -vs- Germans was an easy win for the rather young looking Thais, and in the 2nd Semi Final British Club causing plenty of headache to somewhat understrength Vikings on a 0-0 draw, and losing 5-4 in the long shoot-out.
Which meant that the 2 strong teams on the day Yingcharoen -vs- Vikings Grand Final was going to be another tough battle. Although, Yingcharoen went up 1-0 in the first-half, Vikings, especially Anders, showed their class to come back and win in the 2nd Half with 2 nicely taken goals. It was a truly revealing day for everyone attending the competition to also get to see Anders's rather generous celebrations with some hairy mooning of the spectators, all of which have been captured on video to be available in the stores very soon.
Congratulations to all the teams, and to Vikings winning their 2nd in-a-row championship, to repeat NIST Teachers's feat from 2005. It was a great day indeed..!
Here's the complete scores of the day ==>
Thanks to everyone who helped out on the day — Bruce, Gonzague, Sirichai, Derek (with some tasty sandwiches), and happy birthday to Peter again.
I will try to put the video I took on a DVD disc some time soon. Please let me know if you would like to get a copy for you or your team.
Hope to see all of you in the next competition on May/7th.
Kind regards,
-Eralp
