Report Date: 05/May/2022
The 2nd monthly competition of the 2022 Vets League is over-and-done-with, and we have a new monthly Champions!
With German Allstars and Bangkok Condo Rentals out for holidays this month, and welcoming back Scandinavian Vikings first time since Nov/2021, there was certainly a change in the balance of power.
Some interesting scores in the Group Stage:
■ Teak Temple 7 - 0 Team-X Volunteers
■ BU Japan 0 - 4 Bangkok Oldboys
■ Scandinavian Vikings 5 - 0 Sanook Wanderers
■ Bangkok Oldboys 6 - 1 Team-X Volunteers
■ Toto’s Titans 4 - 2 Sanook Wanderers
■ Bangkok Oldboys 4 - 3 Teak Temple
at the end of which saw Scandinavian Vikings top Group-A with 10 pts, and Bangkok Oldboys top Group-B with 12 points (Yes, that’s 3 extra points for extra goals in 3 group games, which, I think we have hardly seen before).
The were some exciting hard-hitting games in the Knockouts (thankfully, not any hard-punching :)
Plate Division (SFs):
■ Japan FC 4 - 0 Team-X Volunteers
■ BU Japan 4 - 1 Sanook Wanderers
Plate Division (GFs):
■ Team-X Volunteers 3 - 4 Sanook Wanderers <== BadCup Champions: Team-X
■ Japan FC 0 (1) - 0 (0) BU Japan <== Plate Champions: JFC
Cup Division (SFs):
■ Scandinavian Vikings 2 - 0 Teak Temple
■ Bangkok Oldboys 4 - 2 Toto's Titans
Cup Division (GFs):
■ Teak Temple 1 - 0 Toto's Titans <== 3rd Place: Teak Temple
The Grand Final was one of the highest tempo games we saw in the Vets League in a long time --- the full 17-min of it. Bangkok Oldboys, with their improved squad from the Sambaland and Midlands, and Scandinavian Vikings with their deep 12-men squad and physical football, it was a constant end-to-end battle between the two goals. Vikings, who haven’t conceded any goal all day, were determined to keep it that way in the defence; and Oldboys, who have scored 4-or-more goals in every game, were determined to knock one in any time.
When 17-min regulation time ended, it was an entertaining but barren 0-0 draw. So, we went to the sudden death penalty-shootouts, with Oldboys taking the first shot and heartbreakingly missing it, and Vikings scoring theirs right after. Celebrations in the Northernlands :)
Congratulations! 😊
An excellent day all around, and plenty of positive football and friendly banter.
See y’all at the March tournament on Mar/6th (Sun).
Kind regards,
-Eralp
