Report Date: 30/May/2022
Vets League returned to SoccerPro Onnut with an 8-team competition this month. Scandinavian Vikings, were present to defend their title from last month, plus the usual suspects — German Allstars, BU Japan, Toto’s Titans, Japan FC, Bangkok Condo Rentals. We also had a new addition to the Vets League ranks in Kh. Putari’s Kick Company.
Group Stage matches were an easy going affair, with a few interesting scores:
■ Japan Allstars 1 - 3 Toto’s Titans
■ BU Japan 0 - 5 German Allstars
■ Bangkok Condo Rentals 2 - 4 Japan FC
■ Scandinavian Vikings 1 - 1 Kick Company
When the dust settled, it was clear that Japan FC and German Allstars were the teams heading toward the top trophy, and Japan Allstars and Scandinavian Vikings had some chance too.
Plate Division (SFs):
The second tier, Plate Division, semi-finals produced some interesting football.
■ Toto's Titans 0 - 2 Kick Company
■ Bangkok Condo Rentals 1 - 2 BU Japan
Plate Division (GFs):
Unbelievably, tournament Champions from Jan/2022 reduced to BadCup Champions this month.
■ Toto's Titans 2 - 0 Bangkok Condo Rentals
==> BadCup Champions: Bangkok Condo Rentals
And, the joyful winners of the 2nd division (5th place) Plate Trophy was Mori San’s BU Japan.
■ Kick Company 0 - 1 BU Japan
==> Plate Champions: BU Japan
Cup Division (SFs):
Some say, one of semi-finals of the Cup Division should have been the Grand Final. Despite the constant attacks by the Germans, the only side that found the target with a lone goal was the Vikings.
■ German Allstars 0 - 1 Scandinavian Vikings
On the other side of the semi-finals, the 2 Japan teams slugged it out for a gaolfull 2-2 draw, with Japan FC claiming their spot in the Grand Final on their first shot in the penalty shootouts.
■ Japan FC 2(1) - 2(0) Japan Allstars
Cup Division (GFs):
In the 3rd place match, German Allstars could not hold up against the organized total football of Japan Allstar, and relented easily.
■ German Allstars 0 - 3 Japan Allstars
And, in the Grand Final, Japan FC and Scandinavian Vikings had already met in the Group Stage which Japan FC carried easily in a 4-2 score. In this match, both sides defended well, and ended up in a 0-0 draw, to take us into the dreaded penalty shootouts. Normally, penalty shootouts are sudden death in the Vets League. But, since we had a few minutes of extra time, the 2 teams agreed to do it as 3-shots each, which made the whole difference.
Although Japan FC scored and Vikings missed their first shot, at the 3 shots mar, we were drawn at 2-2 each. And, it took 3 more shots to determine the champions.
■ Scandinavian Vikings 0(5) - 0(4) Japan FC
==> Cup (1st) Division Champions: Scandinavian Vikings 🏆
As a result, Scandinavian Vikings became a repeat champions in the Vets League since German Allstars in LINK:Nov/2019 and LINK:Dec/2019 at our old venue at Gym19 Astro.
Congratulations! 🙂
It was great to see the Vets friends again after a month, and a friendly day of good football and funny banter ✌️
See y’all soon at the Apr tournament on Apr/3rd (Sun).
Kind regards,
-Eralp
